Sewing Instructions:

Read instructions thoroughly before starting to sew.

Layout and pin pattern to material, tailor tack dot on back seam of pattern, and then cut out pattern from material.
(See my "How to Sew" page on how to do tailor tacks.)

Step 1

Sew back seam (6mm wide) to tailor tack (marking the start of the back split), then zig-zag each side of seam and press seam open; forming foldline for back split also.

Step 2

Making casing for elastic:
Zig-zag at waist edge.
Turn garment to right (good) side.
Turn under 2cm, press foldline and sew down (6mm from edge), leaving 1cm gap each side of back seam to be able to thread elastic through the casing with a safety pin later.
Thread elastic through the casing, at ends of elastic sew 6mm seam and then sew the 2cm gap up to complete the casing.

Step 3

Zig-zag at hem edge.
Turn under 6mm twice at hem edge, pin, press and then blind-hem stitch hem by hand.
Blind-hem stitch sides of split inside the garment.
